I am a grade 12 student at Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School. My main focus in school is with the Communication Technology courses. I am also a part of the the Specialist High Skills Major Focus Program in Communications Technology. This program has helped me better my skills and knowledge in the Communication Technology field and has also helped me to make the decision to pursue post secondary education in the field of photography. Come graduation I will have taken all the requirements needed to receive the Red-Seal Diploma in the SHSM program.

Please enjoy my portfolio!

GRADE 9 DOCUMENTARY

Each year, Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School grade 12 Communication Technology students create a Grade 9 Documentary video that is then sent out to the feeder schools. Those feeder schools students then get an idea about what high school is all about. These videos have various subjects of questions such as "To be successful".  My assigned job for this video was to do audio. As audio my job was to make sure when filming the video that the audio levels were right. Once we were done filming my job was to then figure out music that was appropriate for the video as well as checking all the audio.

COMMERCIAL REPRODUCTION

For this assignment in groups we were supposed to find a short television commercial and recreate it to the best of our abilities.  The commercial our group decided to do was a Jif commercial. I played the character of the mother in this video. Doing this video taught me many things for example how to lip sync in time to the original video and then overwrite it to make it look real.  Another example of something that showed to be difficult is finding the right location to match the video. To edit and finalize this video I used Final Cut Pro. Overall this was a fun assignment to do and I really enjoyed the challenge.

Yearbook Projects

This photo was taken at Centuari Summer Arts camp. I attended this camp for a program that specifically specializes in photography. I learned many skills whilst attending this camp. This photo was taken with a Lumix point and shoot camera. I enjoy this photograph because of the texture as well as the effect. This photograph was not edited at all.

This photograph was taken in Sydney, Australia on a warm summer morning. I enjoy this photograph because it not only shows where exactly the photo was taken just by the Sydney Opera House but it is a different take to the classic shot. The sun coming up and reflecting on the water was the final touch that made this picture perfect to me. It was taken with a Nikon D200.

This photo was part of a photo set of head shots taken for my school, Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School's yearly play, Secret Garden. I chose this photo out of the set for a couple reasons. You can see the hair light hit the top of head creating perfecting lighting. She also has perfect lighting her face and creating a rembrant lighting under her right eye. Finally her head tilt worked out to create the perfect angle to finish off an overall great photo. This was taken with a Nikon D7000.

This photo was taken of a live performance of my school's production of the Secret Garden. This not only fits the theme of theatrical photograph but also motion. As I took this shot I caught the main dancer in mid dance action and it worked out perfectly in the shot. I also like the lighting in this photograph. This was taken with a Nikon D200.

I chose this picture because it shows depth of field. I made the camera lens focus on the flowers in the foreground therefore making the horse in the background out of focus and appear blurry. I really like how the photo turned out. This photo was taken with a D200.

This photo was taken near Brisbane, Australia. I chose this picture because I had control over the lighting in the photograph. The trees framed into the centre where the sun shone through the branches creating a flare. This was taken on a D200.

ARCHITECTURAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Old vs. New photograph by Andrea Streicher
This photograph shows the theme of old vs new in downtown Kingston, Ontario. The photograph was taken with a D200 dslr camera with a 17-80mm lens. This image was then edited with Adobe photoshop S3.

PUBLICITY HEADSHOT

Publicity headshot of Airin Shannon by Andrea Streicher
This publicity head shot of Airin Shannon was taken with a Nikon D200, umbrella flash unit and a hair light. When using a flash unit I could then work to create different lighting effects on my models face, for example Rembrandt. I then used Adobe Photoshop CS3 and edited this picture. The only thing I changed in this picture was the colouring to turn it grayscale (black and white) I decided to leave the model exactly how she was. Over all I am very happy with the final result of this photograph.
